Muehlbauer To Showcase Chip Card Testing System In CeBIT

Mühlbauer is showcasing its chip card testing system CCT 5300 at this year's CeBIT. The machine is part of a broad array of Mühlbauer personalization technologies responding to the enormous challenges and trends in personalization in recent years. The CCT 5300 tests and encodes smart cards, contactless and dual interface cards according to format ID-1 and integrates such processes as chip loading, encoding of magnetic stripes and laser engraving, while achieving a throughput of up to 4,000 cards per hour.

Giesecke & Devrient (G+D) is launching its new STARSIM Java card at Cartes 2002. Available with 32 or 64 kilobytes, the SIM card combines Java functionality with a Wireless Internet Browser (WIB 1.2) a micro-browser specified by SmartTrust. This integration unites the advantages of both technologies on one card: a very compact byte code plus the applet and plug-in download after card issuance. Mobile network operators therefore benefit from a fast service distribution, an easy application development and a reduced time-to-market for new value-added services. In addition, an integrated WIM (WAP Identification Module) serves as a security token for a wireless PKI.
