OTI’s Saturn 6000 Receives PayPass M/Chip Approval

OTI announced that its new contactless reader, the Saturn 6000, has been approved by MasterCard after rigorous testing for the latest versions of PayPass – EMV M/Chip Version 1.3 and Magnetic Stripe Version 3.2 contactless payment programmes which allows the reader to support the global contactless payments market. The reader is also approved for MasterCard PayPass ISO 14443 Implementation Specification Version 1.1 required by MasterCard for all products starting this year. In addition, the Saturn 6000 supports contactless payments programmes from other major FIs, including Visa contactless programme, ExpressPay from AmEx and Discover Zip, as well as programmes for mass transit ticketing, MiFare, loyalty, third-party applications and more.

Alcatel & Oberthur's Guardian Angel In 3GSM World

Alcatel and Oberthur Card Systems demonstrated their "Guardian Angel" solution at the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes recently. This new service allows parents to keep track of their children on their way home from school. To set up the service, the parent first accompanies the child on the chosen route, using the SIMphonic Pico SIM-based application on the child's mobile phone to mark checkpoints intermittently throughout the journey. Alcatel's location server then defines the area in which the child should walk.

Visa Shared Best Practices In Acquirer Forum

Visa held its first ever Acquirer Forum recently in Bangkok at which industry speakers including merchants, merchant associations, acquirers and payment processing vendors shared best practices with 40 delegates from key acquiring banks in Asia Pacific. Entitled "Maximizing Your Acquiring Business", the forum focused on ways to help Visa members maximize sales from their acquiring businesses by sharing best practices from around the world. Participants discussed a number of new emerging trends in the payment industry such as biometrics and wireless and online payments.

Alliance Believes Smart Card Catches On In US

Attendees were upbeat and justifiably optimistic about the future at the recently concluded Smart Card Alliance Annual Conference, where the Alliance announced that smart card module shipments to the US and Canada had doubled in the first half of 2002 to 31.2 million, and total more than 120 million units since 1999.
